Use

Use this when reading a table for the first time.

Variable Types

  • Numeric: a measured or counted number.
  • Categorical: names or groups.
  • Ordinal: ordered categories where gaps may not be equal.
  • Count: number of events.
  • Rate: events divided by exposure or population.
  • Proportion: part divided by whole.
  • Date or time: values tied to sequence or duration.

Check

For each variable, ask what was measured, how it was measured, who or what it describes, and what errors may exist.
