What this module established

A chart answers one question and prompts one action. Write the question above it before drawing, and write the takeaway sentence - as a claim with a figure in it - before building the chart that supports it.

Carry forward

• Ink has to earn its place by removing work from the reader. Second y-axes manufacture relationships and should not be used at all.
• Test charts by asking readers the questions the chart should answer. Disagreement is a defect in the chart, not in the readers.
• A chart prompting no action is context. Label it, so nobody waits for a conclusion that was never coming.

Before moving on

Move on when you have critiqued five real charts and rewritten every title as a claim containing a figure.
