Module 07 Summary
What this module established
Always plot the scatter before reporting a correlation. Curves and clusters both produce respectable coefficients, and neither is a linear relationship.
Carry forward
- Draw a fitted line only with the points, and report r-squared beside it. Half the spread can survive a respectable fit.
- Colour by any grouping variable you have. A relationship that disappears within groups was a relationship between the groups.
- Report the coefficient and the sample size; do not upgrade a correlation into a cause or a controlled effect.
Before moving on
Move on when you have checked for confounders and written a finding sentence that claims no more than the data supports.
