Module 08 Summary
What this module established
Colour must encode identity, quantity or emphasis. If removing it loses no information, it was decoration - and decoration costs the reader attention.
Carry forward
- Compute the contrast ratio rather than judging it. Your monitor is not the medium it will be read on.
- Do not encode meaning in red versus green. Prefer blue/orange and vary lightness as well as hue.
- Position is the strongest channel and colour the fourth. Move the finding to the top-left before reaching for a colour.
Before moving on
Move on when every contrast ratio is computed, no meaning rests on hue alone, and each chart survives greyscale.
