Data Visualization and Dashboard Storytelling

Module 11 Activity

Scenario

Someone has asked for an interactive version. Decide whether it earns its place and build it honestly if so.

What you build

An interactivity decision, and - where justified - hover, filters and an export that works offline.

Steps

  1. For each reader question, decide whether interaction answers it better than a static chart. Justify each interactive one.
  2. Where you build a hover, put something in it that is not on either axis.
  3. Set the default filter state to the view carrying your main finding, and put the filter state in the title.
  4. Constrain any filter combination that would produce a sample too small to be meaningful.
  5. Export with the library inlined and test it with the network disabled.
  6. Say honestly whether any of the interactivity is standing in for a decision you did not make.
