Purpose

The same facts, written for three genuinely different readers. Holding the content fixed is what makes the comparison informative — anything that changes is the audience line doing its work.

Steps

1. Choose a task where the underlying facts are settled.
2. Write three audience lines: someone senior and short of time, someone affected by the decision, someone who has to carry it out.
3. Generate all three from the same facts.
4. Mark every sentence as same, adapted, or only-here.
5. Look hard at anything that appears for one audience and not another.
6. Run the swap test on the version for the affected reader.

Evidence to hand in

• Three audience lines.
• Three outputs with every sentence marked.
• A note on any only-here sentence you decided to remove.
• The swap-test result.

Review checklist

• The facts are identical across all three.
• Each audience line describes the reader, not a tone adjective.
• Every only-here sentence was a deliberate decision.
• Nothing appears for the senior reader that was withheld from the affected one without a stated reason.
