Module 05 Activity
Activity ID: PAW-M05-A01 Estimated active time: 35-45 minutes
Purpose
Format is not presentation. A structure with named slots forces completeness, and this activity measures how much of the improvement comes from structure rather than wording.
Steps
- Take a genuinely vague request and do not tidy it.
- Work out what decision the reader makes, and choose the format that follows from it.
- Name the slots — columns, steps, sections — rather than the format alone.
- Add the closing sections: assumptions, what I do not know, not covered.
- Run the original and the structured version.
- Compare on completeness, checkability, invented content, and whether you could act on it today.
Evidence to hand in
- The original request, unedited.
- The conversion worksheet.
- The output specification.
- Both outputs and the four-way comparison.
Review checklist
- The format follows from the reader's decision, not from habit.
- Every slot is named, not left to be chosen for you.
- The closing sections are present.
- Any invented content in either output is counted.
