The proposed observation tool should take the requested exhibit ID only. Its successful output could include that exhibit, a synthetic observation ID, transcription, observation revision and an explicit uncertainty field. Failure outcomes could be observation missing and observation ambiguous. It must not substitute the catalogue year for an unreadable label: those are independent sources. This is a proposed contract, not a currently implemented tool.

For a wrong-version test, subclass SyntheticTool, call its normal lookup, then change source_version and source_id to CAT-v2 values. Preserve the correct exhibit so the test isolates version handling. Engine must stop with invalid_tool_output and keep fact=None. A valid newer source may justify a new run; it must not rewrite the meaning of an existing pinned run without an explicit source-change protocol.

Use a fresh store and run it through Engine.run_until_pause. Expect STOPPED/invalid_tool_output. Exact-field checking catches this particular mismatch. Removing the extra field would not prove LLM injection resistance; the allowed text fields themselves could carry misleading language, and this project has no live LLM consuming them.

To test a redundant draft target: start a fresh run, call plan with the baseline, call invoke, then call plan with ScriptedPlanner(Proposal("draft", "EX-001")). The result is STOPPED/unexpected_draft_argument. The output contract deliberately has one source of target truth: the saved request card.

A regular expression answers whether a string has an accepted shape. Scope answers whether that target is authorized for this job. EX-002 satisfies the shape but is outside an EX-001 job. The controller charges budget before invocation; the tool cannot decide its own allowance. A source reference provides traceability inside the fixture but cannot establish that a real document is authentic or factually correct.

Self-review: each test should isolate one boundary. If you change exhibit, version and year simultaneously, the test may pass while leaving the intended version check untested. Keep the counterexample small enough that its failure teaches one thing.
