Module 2

Module 2 Activity: Prompt Brief Rewrite Workshop

Activity ID: AIT-M02-A01 Estimated active time: 35-45 minutes

Purpose

This activity helps you turn weak prompts into useful prompt briefs.

You will practise three situations:

  1. Writing.
  2. Summary or notes.
  3. Options or decision support.

Use only safe, fictional, or nonsensitive material.

Part 1: Rewrite three weak prompts

Use this table:

Weak promptBetter prompt briefWhat improved
Write a reply.
Summarise this.
Help me choose.

Each better prompt brief should include:

  • task;
  • audience;
  • context;
  • constraints;
  • output format;
  • review criteria.

Part 2: Add questions before answers

Choose one of your rewritten prompts.

Add this instruction:

Before answering, ask me up to three questions if any important information is missing. Do not ask for private or sensitive information.

Now rewrite the full prompt.

Part 3: Add options and decision criteria

Choose one safe task where options would help.

Write a prompt that asks for three options.

Include:

  • how the options should differ;
  • criteria for comparing them;
  • a request to list assumptions;
  • a reminder that you will make the final decision.

Part 4: Review your prompt brief

For each prompt, answer:

  • What information did I give the tool?
  • What information did I not give the tool?
  • What private information did I avoid sharing?
  • How will I review the output?

Model guidance

A strong prompt brief is clear but not overloaded.

It does not include private details. It does not let the tool make important final decisions. It tells the tool what to do when information is missing.

Completion evidence

Save:

  • three rewritten prompt briefs;
  • one questions-before-answering prompt;
  • one options prompt with decision criteria;
  • your review notes.
