The skill

The main skill in this module is rewriting weak prompts.

You are not trying to sound clever. You are trying to be clear.

A good prompt brief helps the AI tool understand:

  • what to do;
  • who the output is for;
  • what context is safe and relevant;
  • what to avoid;
  • what format to use;
  • how you will review the output.

Weak prompt 1

Make this sound better.

Better prompt brief:

Rewrite this safe sample message for a colleague. Make it clearer and more polite, but keep the meaning the same. Keep it under 120 words. Do not add new facts. After rewriting, list any assumptions you made.

Why this is better:

  • It names the audience.
  • It defines "better".
  • It limits length.
  • It prevents invented facts.
  • It asks for assumptions.

Weak prompt 2

Summarise my notes.

Better prompt brief:

Summarise these safe sample notes for my own planning. Separate the output into decisions, action items, open questions, and risks. Do not invent missing names or deadlines. If something is unclear, mark it as unclear.

Why this is better:

  • It defines the purpose.
  • It gives the output sections.
  • It warns against invention.
  • It handles missing information.

Weak prompt 3

Help me decide.

Better prompt brief:

Help me compare these two safe options. Create a table with benefits, risks, effort, missing information, and questions to verify. Do not choose for me. End with a neutral summary of what I should check before deciding.

Why this is better:

  • It asks for comparison, not a final decision.
  • It defines criteria.
  • It keeps responsibility with the learner.
  • It asks for verification questions.

Your rewrite pattern

Use this structure:

Help me [task]. The audience is [audience]. The context is [safe context]. Please [format]. Follow these constraints: [constraints]. If information is missing, [ask questions or list assumptions]. I will review for [review criteria].

Quick practice
