Practice: draft and revise one professional message
Unit ID: AIT-M04-U05 Estimated active time: 15-20 minutes
The main idea
The useful skill is not generating a draft; it is improving one responsibly.
Anyone can produce a draft in seconds. What distinguishes good AI-assisted work is what happens between the draft and the send.
Why this matters
Keeping the intermediate steps is what lets you learn. Without them you cannot tell whether the final version is better than the first, or only different.
Safe example
A safe meeting follow-up becomes a final message after tone and fact review.
Four artefacts survive: the brief, the draft, the review notes, and the final.
Better working habit
Save the prompt brief, draft, review notes, and final edit.
Four files or four sections of one note. The review notes are the part you will reuse.
What to watch for
Do not send AI-assisted text without reading it fully.
Skim-reading your own outgoing message is how invented details reach other people.
Mini practice
Create a before-and-after writing sample with review notes.
Then write one line on what you would put in the prompt next time to avoid the same edits.
Check yourself
Before moving on, answer:
- What did I change between draft and final, and why?
- Which of those changes should have been in the prompt?
- Did I read the final version in full before sending?
