Answers and explanations
Compare these references after your own attempt. They are illustrative answers, not records of a live assistant run. You may read them at any time.
Read after your attempt. Equivalent wording is welcome when it preserves the same meaning, conditions and evidence boundary.
Lesson pause answers
- Lesson 1: “Try a shorter welcome” is the suggestion. “Everyone prefers it” is a broad factual claim that needs evidence. Agreement with the suggestion does not verify the claim.
- Lesson 2: The working link establishes that a page is reachable. It has not established the attendance claim. You still need a relevant original passage with matching context.
- Lesson 3: Eighteen handouts multiplied by two pages per handout gives 36 printed pages. At £0.10 per page, the total is £3.60. One-sided printing uses 36 sheets.
- Lesson 4: No. Inspect authority, approval and any explicit replacement instruction. Do not promote a later draft solely because of its date.
Guided practice Reference audit
C1 Supported
G1 is a venue confirmation for Room Cedar on 14 December 2025. The claim matches its room, date and booking status. Keep the claim with G1.
C2 Contradicted
G2 supplies six packs and 12 cards per pack. The independent calculation is 6 packs multiplied by 12 cards per pack = 72 cards. The answer's 84-card total is wrong. Correct it to 72 activity cards.
C3 Supported
G3 approves 240 printed pages at £0.15 per printed page, with all charges included in this exercise. The calculation is 240 pages multiplied by £0.15 per page = £36. Keep the total with the source and calculation.
C4 Unresolved
G4 records “07/11/2025” without a convention. It could represent 7 November or July 11. The pack does not establish the intended interpretation. Preserve the original string in the audit and request the month in words. Do not choose an interpretation from the printing currency.
C5 Unresolved
G5 gives 10:00 and G6 gives 10:30. Both are unapproved drafts from the same date, with no revision time or replacement instruction. The sources do not establish one confirmed start time. Identify both records and ask for the approved schedule. Listing G5 in the answer does not make G6 irrelevant.
C6 Supported
G7 directly approves a ten-minute welcome. Keep that duration. Do not infer a speaker, start time or other event detail from it.
C7 Unresolved
G8 explains the absence of a retrievable original publication and passage for the cited report. The numerical attendance claim cannot be checked from the allowed evidence. Remove it as a factual assertion or label it unverified. Do not replace it with “reminders never improve attendance.” The reference in the supplied answer is an intentionally invented teaching example, not a source you were expected to find online.
C8 Contradicted by the recorded E1 passage
The inspected official documentation says disabling the training control does not erase saved conversations. Correct the claim accordingly. It does not settle separate questions about confidentiality or permission to share information.
Your own live-source record should contain your actual access date and observed page details. If the current passage materially differs, explain the difference rather than copying this verdict without evidence.
Guided practice Example source record
This records the source inspection used to prepare the exercise; it is not a substitute for your own browser check.
Claim checked: C8 Original URL: https://help.openai.com/en/articles/7730893-data-controls-in-chatgpt Title and publisher: Data controls in ChatGPT; OpenAI Help Center Named author: Not named Date information observed: Updated: 13 days ago; no exact publication date established Access date for this reference record: 12 October 2026 Relevant location: Section about saved chats Passage summary: Turning off training does not remove existing saved conversations. Scope: A documented control and saved-chat behaviour, not permission to share workplace records. Verdict: Contradicted by the inspected passage.
Guided practice Example corrected briefing
- Room Cedar is booked for 14 December 2025. [G1]
- The inventory contains 72 activity cards. [G2; 6 × 12 checked]
- The approved printing total is £36. [G3; 240 × £0.15 checked]
- The deadline is recorded as “07/11/2025”; its intended date format needs clarification. [G4]
- The workshop start time is unresolved: the two unapproved drafts give 10:00 and 10:30. [G5, G6]
- The approved welcome length is ten minutes. [G7]
- The statement that a reminder doubles attendance remains unverified; its cited original report and passage are unavailable in the supplied evidence. [G8]
- Disabling the training control does not delete saved chats, according to the inspected documentation. [E1]
Example review decision:
“Accept as a checked practice briefing with the deadline interpretation, start time and attendance claim visibly unresolved. This does not provide a confirmed event announcement.”
If you did not access E1 live, add: “The product-control sentence was checked against the supplied capsule only; live-source inspection remains incomplete.”
Independent assignment Reference audit
J1 Supported: I1 confirms a seated capacity of 28 for this workshop layout. Keep the layout condition; it prevents the number being treated as a universal capacity for every arrangement.
J2 Contradicted: I2 requires 36 handouts with two pages each. That is 72 printed pages. One-sided printing uses 72 sheets. The calculation is 72 pages multiplied by £0.10 per page = £7.20. The answer's £3.60 overlooks the second page of each handout.
J3 Supported: I4 is an approved correction by the same coordinator and explicitly replaces I3. It establishes three minutes as the approved length. The record's authority and replacement wording resolve the previous five-minute duration.
J4 Unresolved: I5's “03/04/2025” could mean 3 April or March 4. The source supplies no date convention. Keep the ambiguity visible and ask for the month in words.
J5 Unresolved: I5 does not name the facilitator. That is insufficient to conclude that no one has been assigned. Say that the facilitator is not provided in these notes and request the confirmed assignment if one exists.
J6 Contradicted: I6 says coordinator approval is pending. Proofreading and approval are separate statuses. Preserve both facts.
The separate recommendation is a suggestion. It is not a replacement approval and adds no evidence about the agreed duration.
Independent assignment Example corrected note
- Room Maple has a confirmed seated capacity of 28 for the workshop layout. [I1]
- Printing requires 72 printed pages on 72 sheets and costs £7.20 under the approved instruction. [I2; quantities and total checked]
- The approved welcome length is three minutes; the correction replaces the earlier five-minute approval. [I3, I4]
- The rehearsal date is recorded as “03/04/2025”; the intended month needs clarification. [I5]
- The rehearsal facilitator is not named in these notes. [I5]
- The handout wording is proofread; coordinator approval is pending. [I6]
Example unsent questions:
- “Does ‘03/04/2025’ mean 3 April or March 4? Please write the month in words.”
- “Has a rehearsal facilitator been assigned? If so, what is the confirmed assignment?”
Example review decision:
“Accept as a checked practice note with the rehearsal date and facilitator still unresolved. I checked the quantities, cost, replacement approval and remaining status conditions against I1 to I6.”
Self-check answers
- Separate the suggestion to shorten the welcome from the factual claim that everyone prefers it. The second part requires evidence.
- Check the original source, creator, date/status, context and relevant passage, then compare that passage with the exact claim. Confidence and a reachable page do not complete the check.
- Contradicted means relevant evidence conflicts with the claim. Unresolved means the evidence cannot settle it, for example because it is absent, ambiguous or in an unresolved conflict.
- The source date helps establish when the information was created or updated. The access date records when you inspected it. They answer different questions.
- No. Report that the notes do not name a facilitator. Do not infer that no assignment exists elsewhere.
- Unresolved. Inspect both drafts and ask for the approved time rather than choosing one without justification.
- Its relevant authority and explicit replacement instruction establish which duration applies. Its later date supports the sequence but is not sufficient by itself.
- Keep the exact string in the audit, mark the interpretation unresolved and request the month in words.
- Record the source quantity, price per relevant unit, any conditions, your operation and a labelled result. For multi-page handouts, calculate printed pages before multiplying by a per-page price.
- Mark it unresolved and remove or clearly qualify it in the factual briefing. Ask for the original source and relevant passage if the claim matters; do not invent them.
- No. The narrow documentation statement does not establish confidentiality or your organisation's permission. Continue using only the fictional course material.
- Say that you used the supplied capsule and did not access the live page. Complete that step later rather than describing it as verified.
Recap and next step
A checked answer connects each factual claim to relevant evidence. You have practised opening a real source, reading its context, checking calculations and preserving uncertainty when the records do not settle a question.
Keep your claim audit as well as the corrected briefing. The audit shows why each sentence can stay, needs changing or must remain unresolved.
Before using another AI-generated answer, ask: “What exactly is being claimed? What original evidence supports it? What did I check myself? What still needs clarification?”
Bring the audit method to your next drafting task. Good wording becomes useful when its facts, conditions and remaining gaps are visible.
