Everyday AI · Module 4

Audit exactly eight claims

Suggested time: 30 minutes.

Snapshot G The coordinator's briefing

Your task is to audit the eight numbered claims below against G1 to G8 and the single public source E1. This is a fixed historical practice snapshot, not a current event plan. C8 concerns the product documentation you inspect; it is not a claim about how the product worked on the fictional workshop dates.

All fictional source text needed for the task is supplied. E1 is the only external webpage you need. Do not search for the invented workshop, people or report. No extra factual assumptions are allowed.

Complete fictional source pack

G1 Venue confirmation

Creator: Willow Community Rooms booking desk, a fictional venue. Date: 1 December 2025. Status: confirmation.

“Room Cedar is booked for the Willow Team community workshop on 14 December 2025.”

G2 Card inventory

Creator: Willow Team materials volunteer. Date: 3 December 2025. Status: counted inventory.

“There are six unopened packs of activity cards. Each pack contains 12 cards. No other activity cards are included in this inventory.”

G3 Printing approval

Creator: Willow Team coordinator. Date: 2 December 2025. Status: approved.

“Approve printing of 240 single-sided pages at £0.15 per printed page. This price includes all charges for this exercise.”

G4 Registration export

Creator: Willow Team registration sheet export. Export date: 3 December 2025. Status: copied record.

“Sign-up deadline: 07/11/2025. The date convention is not recorded. No month name or other deadline wording appears in this record.”

G5 Schedule draft A

Creator: Willow Team planning group. Date: 3 December 2025. Status: unapproved draft. Revision time: not recorded.

“Workshop start time: 10:00. No approval is recorded.”

G6 Schedule draft B

Creator: Willow Team planning group. Date: 3 December 2025. Status: unapproved draft. Revision time: not recorded.

“Workshop start time: 10:30. No approval is recorded. Neither this draft nor draft A is marked as replacing the other.”

G7 Welcome approval

Creator: Willow Team coordinator. Date: 2 December 2025. Status: approved.

“The approved welcome length is ten minutes.”

G8 Reference inventory

Creator: Compiler of this fictional exercise pack. Date: 3 December 2025. Status: inventory of supplied material.

“No attendance study or research report accompanies this pack. No author, publisher, retrievable document or original passage has been supplied for the report title cited in claim C7. G1 to G7 are the complete workshop records for this exercise.”

E1 Public-source card

  • Original page: OpenAI's data-controls help page (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/7730893-data-controls-in-chatgpt)
  • Page title: Data controls in ChatGPT
  • Publisher: OpenAI Help Center. No individual author was named in the inspected page.
  • Course source-check date: 12 October 2026
  • Date information observed then: a relative update label, “Updated: 13 days ago.” This is not a verified exact publication date.
  • Passage location: the section about what happens to saved chats
  • Verified short passage: “Turning off Improve the model for everyone does not delete or hide saved chats.”

This card is a reading aid. Open the original page yourself and record its present wording and date information. If the relevant wording has changed, report the difference and base your live-source verdict on the evidence you actually inspected. The solutions explain the passage recorded above.

If the page cannot be opened, record “live source not accessed.” You can still classify C8 against this supplied capsule, but do not call that an independent live-page verification. The browser step remains to be completed when access is available.

Supplied answer with exactly eight claims

Each numbered item below is one claim for this audit. Citation labels are leads to check, not verdicts.

  1. C1: Room Cedar is booked for 14 December 2025. [G1]
  2. C2: The card inventory contains 84 activity cards. [G2]
  3. C3: The approved printing total is £36. [G3]
  4. C4: The sign-up deadline is 7 November 2025. [G4]
  5. C5: The workshop starts at 10:00. [G5]
  6. C6: The approved welcome length is ten minutes. [G7]
  7. C7: Sending reminders 48 hours before a workshop doubles attendance. [Willow Workshop Outcomes 2025, page 18]
  8. C8: Switching off ChatGPT's model-training control deletes existing saved chats. [E1]

Part A Inspect before asking AI

Spend about 10 minutes.

  1. Read all eight claims and the complete source pack. Do not look at the solutions yet.
  2. Calculate C2 and C3 yourself. Save each operation with its input units and result.
  3. Open E1 in your browser. Record the publisher, title, available date information, your access date and the relevant section. Check the passage in context.
  4. Note which claims appear to need more than one source record. A claim can cite G5 and still require you to inspect G6.

Use this public-source record:

Claim checked: Original URL: Page title and publisher: Named author, or “not named”: Date information shown, or “not shown”: My access date: Relevant section and short passage or accurate paraphrase: Scope or condition that matters: My verdict and why:

Do not calculate an exact update date from a relative label unless the exact date is available from a reliable source. Record the label as displayed.

Part B Build and review the audit

Spend about 12 minutes.

Use the Lesson 5 prompt with C1 to C8, G1 to G8 and your E1 source record. An ordinary chat assistant can help arrange the information; it does not need browser access. Keep a copy of its proposed audit, then verify every row yourself.

If you are working without a chat tool, write the eight audit records directly using the template. Mark this as a manual audit. Do not manufacture an AI response.

For each of the eight claims:

  • Assign supported, contradicted or unresolved.
  • Name the exact evidence or evidence gap.
  • Include a checked calculation when needed.
  • Write a correction or a specific next step.

For C7, describe the reference as unverified within the permitted evidence. Do not treat the inability to inspect it as proof that reminders never help.

Part C Prepare the corrected briefing

Spend about 8 minutes.

Write a short corrected internal briefing that accounts for all eight original claims. You may keep eight numbered entries to make comparison easy. Keep supported facts, correct the numerical and source-reading mistakes, and visibly label unresolved items.

Do not leave the original unsupported claim in the briefing without a warning just because its audit row is elsewhere. Do not turn an unresolved date into a definite date to make the draft look finished.

Finish with a human review decision:

  • “Accept as a checked practice briefing with the listed unresolved items,” if your factual corrections are complete and the gaps are visible; or
  • “Revise before accepting,” with the remaining problem named.

An internal draft with visible gaps can be useful. It is not a confirmed event announcement and should not be treated as one.

Keep the supplied answer, your calculator checks, your public-source record, the proposed audit if you used AI, your final audit and the corrected briefing.

Independent assignment Check a new snapshot

Suggested time: 25 minutes.

Snapshot I A rehearsal and materials note

Use only I1 to I6 below. This assignment does not require another public webpage. Do not import facts from the guided exercise.

Complete fictional source pack

I1 Room capacity record

Creator: fictional venue coordinator. Date: 10 March 2025. Status: confirmed capacity note.

“Room Maple has a confirmed seated capacity of 28 people for this workshop layout.”

I2 Printing instruction

Creator: Willow Team coordinator. Date: 10 March 2025. Status: approved.

“Print 36 handouts. Each handout has two pages. Print all pages one-sided. The charge is £0.10 per printed page, including all charges for this exercise.”

I3 Earlier welcome approval

Creator: Willow Team coordinator. Date: 10 March 2025. Status: approved at the time.

“The welcome length is five minutes.”

I4 Approved correction

Creator: Willow Team coordinator. Date: 11 March 2025. Status: approved replacement for I3.

“Replace I3's five-minute welcome with a three-minute welcome. This correction replaces the earlier welcome-length approval.”

I5 Rehearsal note

Creator: Willow Team planning group. Date: 11 March 2025. Status: working note.

“Rehearsal date: 03/04/2025. The date convention is not recorded. No other date wording is supplied. These notes do not name a rehearsal facilitator.”

I6 Handout status

Creator: Willow Team copy reviewer. Date: 11 March 2025. Status: review note.

“The handout wording has been proofread. Coordinator approval is still pending.”

Supplied answer to audit

  • J1: Room Maple can seat 28 people in the workshop layout. [I1]
  • J2: The printing charge is £3.60. [I2]
  • J3: The approved welcome length is three minutes. [I4]
  • J4: The rehearsal date is 3 April 2025. [I5]
  • J5: No rehearsal facilitator has been assigned. [I5]
  • J6: The handout has coordinator approval. [I6]

Separate recommendation: “Consider keeping the welcome short.” This proposes an action; it does not supply new evidence or change the approved length. Do not count it as a seventh factual claim.

Your task

  1. In about 5 minutes, inspect the records and calculate the number of printed pages, number of sheets under the stated one-sided instruction, and total price. Keep the units visible.
  2. In about 12 minutes, audit J1 to J6. Use the Lesson 5 template, manually or with an assistant's proposed audit that you then check. Explain why the two welcome records can be reconciled but the rehearsal date cannot yet be interpreted reliably.
  3. In about 8 minutes, write a corrected six-entry note, one entry per original claim, and a short review decision. Keep unresolved items visible. Prepare one precise clarification question for the rehearsal date and one for the facilitator, without sending them.

Do not ask the assistant to choose the most likely interpretation of the date. The task is to preserve the evidence boundary. A plausible guess does not complete the check.

What to keep

  • The six-claim audit with evidence and verdicts
  • Your page, sheet and cost calculation
  • Your corrected six-entry note
  • The two unsent clarification questions
  • Your human review decision
  • Any proposed AI audit you used, with meaningful corrections noted

Formative self-assessment rubric

Mark each criterion “met” or “needs correction.” This is practice, with no separate numerical pass score.

  • Claim separation: The main audit has exactly eight records and the independent audit has six. Suggestions are kept separate, and missing information is not treated as proof of a negative event.
  • Traceable evidence: Each verdict identifies a relevant passage, calculation or precise evidence gap. A citation label alone is not the explanation.
  • Original-source inspection: The guided work includes an honest E1 source record, with publisher, date information, access date, context and passage. Any access limitation is explicit.
  • Correct number checks: Quantities, operations and units are visible. Packs, cards, pages, sheets and currency are not mixed up.
  • Careful ambiguity and conflict handling: Unclear dates remain unresolved. Both conflicting drafts are considered. An approved replacement is used only where the records establish it.
  • Responsible citation handling: The unverifiable reference is not presented as checked research, and no replacement source is invented.
  • Faithful final wording: Corrections retain conditions and uncertainty. Every original claim is accounted for in the revised briefing or note.
  • Human review and safe completion: You made the final review decision, used the supplied fictional records and sent no real communications. Any assistant-generated audit was treated as a proposal.

Correct factual errors before accepting the work. A visible unresolved item is acceptable when the evidence cannot settle it. An unresolved item presented as a fact is not. Complete the live-source step later if access prevented it; keep that limitation attached to the work.

Self-check Before reading the answers

Spend about 5 minutes answering, then about 5 minutes checking the solutions. If your audit needs further revision, allow extra time.

  1. What two parts should you separate in “Use a shorter welcome because everyone prefers it”?
  2. An assistant says it is 99% confident and gives a working link. What still needs checking?
  3. What is the difference between “contradicted” and “unresolved”?
  4. Why record both a source's date information and your access date?
  5. A source is silent about a facilitator. Does it support “No facilitator has been assigned”?
  6. Two same-day drafts give different start times, with no approvals or replacement instructions. What verdict fits a definite start-time claim?
  7. A later approved correction explicitly replaces a prior approved duration. What makes it reasonable to use the correction?
  8. What should you do with “03/04/2025” when the source does not establish a date convention?
  9. What do you need to record when independently checking a printing total?
  10. A report title and page number cannot be verified from the permitted sources. What should happen to the claim in the briefing?
  11. Does the public documentation's statement about saved chats establish that confidential workplace information may be shared with a tool?
  12. If you used the E1 capsule because the page would not open, how should your record describe the browser check?
